Since the beginning of 2026, Ukrainian seaports have demonstrated stable operations and growing cargo handling volumes. Total cargo turnover has already reached approximately 15 million tons, indicating a recovery in maritime logistics and the continued key role of port infrastructure in export operations.
The largest share of cargo was handled by the ports of Greater Odesa, which processed 14.5 million tons. A significant portion of this volume consists of agricultural products — about 8.5 million tons. This confirms the continued role of the agricultural sector as the main driver of Ukraine’s export logistics.
Cargo Structure and the Role of the Agricultural Sector
Agricultural cargo remains the key segment of port logistics. It includes grains, oilseeds, and processed agricultural products. Strong international demand for Ukrainian agricultural goods supports a stable level of shipments.
Key characteristics of the cargo flow:
- dominance of agricultural products in total volume;
- maintained regularity of vessel calls;
- gradual recovery of logistics chains via maritime routes.
This allows businesses to reduce dependence on alternative land routes and optimize transportation costs.
Danube Ports as a Supporting Logistics Cluster
Ports of the Danube region continue to play a distinct role, handling 1.1 million tons of cargo since the beginning of the year. Although their share is significantly smaller compared to the ports of Greater Odesa, they remain an important element of logistics diversification.
The Danube route is used as:
- a backup export channel;
- a risk mitigation tool;
- an additional route for certain cargo categories.
The availability of alternative transportation routes increases the resilience of the country’s overall logistics system.
Impact on Ukraine’s Logistics Market
Reaching the 15 million ton mark confirms the gradual stabilization of maritime logistics. For the market, this means:
- increased port capacity;
- improved supply predictability;
- reduced pressure on other modes of transport.
These factors enhance the overall efficiency of supply chains and lay the foundation for further development of export infrastructure.
