On March 10, 2026, the Ministry for Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine announced plans for a large-scale modernization of railway infrastructure. During the year, Ukrzaliznytsia plans to repair more than 1,000 km of railway tracks across various sections of the network.
The work is scheduled on routes with the most intensive freight and passenger traffic. The goal of the program is to maintain the stable operation of the transport system, improve traffic safety, and reduce the number of sections with speed restrictions.
The repair program includes a range of technical works, including:
- replacement of worn rails;
- renewal of sleepers and the ballast layer;
- modernization of the track superstructure;
- repair of infrastructure elements on certain sections.
Such work helps maintain the capacity of the railway network and reduce accident risks. For domestic logistics, this is particularly important because railways transport a significant share of industrial, agricultural, and construction cargo between regions of Ukraine.
Regular infrastructure upgrades also contribute to more stable train schedules and improve the efficiency of transportation chains within the country.
